National Institute of Chemistry

National Institute of Chemistry (NIC) is a leading Slovenian public research institution in the field of chemistry and related disciplines. The two main fields of research are material and life sciences. Research work is carried out in 14 departments and two infrastructure centres. NIC has app. 280 employees; of these 128 have doctorates of science degrees. Currently, 40 PhD students are being trained at NIC. NIC’s employees publish more than 250 scientific papers yearly and are strongly involved in EU funded projects. Research at NIC is oriented towards the development of new technologies and products, which are in accordance to Slovenian Smart Specialization Strategy, Research and Innovation Strategy of Slovenia, Horizon 2020 and other international funding schemes. Research in Department for Materials Chemistry is focused on modern battery systems, coating development, electron microscopy and catalyst. Laboratory is fully equipped with specialized equipment for electrical and electrochemical measurements.
