Vrije Universiteit Brussel – MOBI research Group

Mobility and Automotive Technology Research Centre (MOBI) is a multidisciplinary research group at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). It is built on the internationally recognized 40-year long research tradition of the department ETEC (Electric Engineering and Energy Technology), with added experience from the departments MECH (Applied Mechanics), MOSI-T (Transport Economics), as well as the association partner department Industrial Sciences and Technology (INDI). MOBI is the premier electric vehicle research centre in Belgium, with expertise in electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicle technology, environmental assessment of vehicle technologies, renewable energy and biofuels, sustainable mobility, socio-economical analysis, transport and logistics, intermodal transport, traffic safety and standardization. The MOBI team consists of more than 80 researchers covering the different research areas, 8 of them being senior researchers or professors.

Main related expertise: MOBI has a vast experience in the development and characterization of electric power trains and components for vehicles. The participation of MOBI into this project brings essential and recognized experience in the field of testing and modeling of various rechargeable energy storage systems. In Addition, MOBI a strong expertise in the field of second life battery technologies, market approach and impact assessment evaluation trough LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology.
